Yeast Infection
This is the first of our proposed series of articles which we trust will go some way to furthering your knowledge and understanding of this subject:
What Is Vaginal Yeast Infection?
For sufferers of vaginal yeast infection, the discomfort of the symptoms are enough to make them realize that there is something wrong. However, most people are not aware that the condition they are suffering from is actually a yeast infection. This short article will go some way to explaining exactly what this condition actually is and what triggers it.
Bacterial vaginosis is the correct name for a vaginal yeast infection. In its most basic form, there are several different natural bacteria that live in the vagina of which an imbalance in them can cause an overgrowth which can lead to this infection which is actually an inflammation of the vagina. It usually occurs when the natural bacteria living in the vagina begins to overgrow.
How do you contract this condition?
Well, the vagina creates and maintains its own environment for the correct balance of naturally occurring microorganisms. If these organisms become out of balance for any reason a yeast infection can result. As an example, when the fungus Candida Albicans disturbs this organism balance, the Candida is able to multiply unchecked, the result being this type of infection.
The natural balance of these naturally occurring microorganisms can be disrupted by a variety of different causes.
One of these is by the excessive use of antibiotics. Antibiotics can destroy the good bacteria that are helping to protect the vagina. During or after the use of antibiotics, because of the imbalance created, a vaginal yeast infection can develop. Likewise, steroids can also cause an imbalance leading to the same result.
Diabetics tend to have a lower glycogen store in their vaginal cells. Added to this, diabetes can also trigger a rise in the sugar content of the vagina. This can also increase the likelihood of developing a vaginal yeast infection.
By wearing underwear that is tight or made of artificial materials (which includes just about anything other than cotton) can increase the temperature, moisture and local irritation in the vagina, which can lead to a manifestation of this problem.
There are several other less likely causes that can lead to the contraction of this condition, so the best policy is to ensure good personal huygene and stick to natural materials for clothing and underwear.
Hopefully this article has cleared up a lot of uncertainty and misinformation about this condition. There are many different approaches to dealing with this problem but that is the subject for another article.
